Fash Fix

When times are tough, you spend more on accessories. It’s clothing that suffers. - British fashion consultant and journalist Roger Tredre

In other words, instead of spending loads of cash and adding pieces to your closet, go for accessories that’ll complement what you already have and refresh your look.

The Pope Wears Prada – NOT!

The Associated Press reports:

The devil may wear Prada _ but the pope does not. According to the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, the bright red loafers that Pope Benedict XVI wears are not designed by the Milanese fashion house, as has long been rumored.

“Obviously the attribution was false,” the Vatican newspaper said in its Thursday’s editions.

“Such rumors are inconsistent with the simple and somber man who, on the day of his election to the papacy, showed to the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square and to the whole world the sleeves of a modest black sweater,” it said.

Still, Benedict’s fashion sense has often drawn media attention.

Three years ago around Christmas, he showed up for his weekly public audience in St. Peter’s Square wearing a fur-trimmed stocking cap that could have passed for a Santa Claus hat. The hat, as it turned out, is a “camauro,” which dates back to the Middle Ages and figures in many papal portraits.

On a separate occasion, Benedict sported a sumptuous red velvet cape trimmed in ermine _ another piece of traditional papal attire that had long been abandoned.

L’Osservatore Romano said the pope’s interest in clothes has nothing to do with fashion and everything to do with liturgy _ what symbolism traditional garments can bring to the Christian liturgy.

“The pope, therefore, does not wear Prada, but Christ,” L’Osservatore said.

Jacob The Jeweler is Going to JAIL!

OMG!

I can’t believe it!

Jacob the Jeweler has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.

BET reports:

Call him the “king of bling” or the “hip-hop hookup,” but for the next 2 ½ years, Jacob Arabov will be known as a federal prisoner after pleading guilty Tuesday to lying to prosecutors probing a multi-state drug ring.

The 43-year-old Russian immigrant must also cough up $50,000 in fines and kick down the government to the tune of $2 million in forfeiture payment.

“I feel ashamed that I broke the laws of this country, a country that has been so good for me,” Arabov said. “I will carry this shame for the rest of my life.”

It could have been much worst for Abrabov, who authorities accused of conspiring to launder an estimated $270 million in profits for Detroit’s “Black Mafia Family” drug ring during the 1990s.

At the recommendation of prosecutors, U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn imposed a minimum sentence of three years and one month. He lopped off another seven months from that, noting the defendant’s longtime charity work.

He was arrested two years ago at his New York City jewelry store, which was frequented by many of the biggest names in the music industry.

Really.

OK. I’m really trying to come to grips with this.

Macy’s is launching women’s shapewear that supposed to “smooth skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite while you wear it.”

Called Skineez Skincarewear, and created by Clothes For A Cause, the new line is reported to offer “the luxury of skincare and body contouring through pre-treated shapers that moisturize and smooth the skin.”

The new line includes both a Thigh Slimmer and Waist Slimmer in nude and black.

And get this. It comes as part of a starter kit, including a small bottle of Skintex skincare spray.

It’ll all cost $68, while the Skintex formula will also be sold separately for reapplication for $20.

But here’s the catch: The Skintex spray only works on Skineez Skincarewear garments because of “the unique weaving of the fabric that holds the microcapsules.”

Woman sues Victoria’s Secret claiming thong injury

LOS ANGELES – A woman who says she was hurt by her thong panties when a metal clip flew off and hit her in the eye has sued Victoria’s Secret, saying in a TV interview on Thursday that the injury caused her “excruciating pain.” Macrida Patterson, a 52-year-old Los Angeles traffic officer, told NBC’s “Today” show that she suffered cuts to her cornea from the small piece of metal that had been used to secure a rhinestone heart onto the blue thong.

Versace on The Road

Now this is an interesting collabo.

Versace has agreed to design the interior of a limited edition Lamborghini car and its accompanying accessories like gloves and bags in the latest partnership between the two luxury brands.

Reuters says the Italian fashion house will design the interior of the Murcielago LP640 Roadster.

The cars, whose interiors will be fitted with black and white leather, will be made on demand so the number to be produced has yet to be determined, according to a Lamborghini spokeswoman.

The accessories, which also include trolleys and suitcases, will go on sale in Versace and Lamborghini stores by November.

The car looks ok but we really wanna see the gloves and handbags!

Fash Fix

Long dresses, on hiatus last year, are back in full swing. Called day gowns or patio dresses, the latest iterations hover around 60 inches long from shoulder to hem and are not only for cabana parties. They can be worn deskside or poolside, from day to night — just mind the closing doors. – Ellen Tien
