It’s always cool when people outside the hip-hop world recognize the art form’s icons.

On Tuesday, Russell Simmons was honored at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s annual SCAD Style Etoile Awards gala.

Also receiving awards were Tony Award-winning Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long, Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion editor Robin Givhan, actress and philanthropist Cornelia Guest, and New York City Planning Director Amanda Burden.

Seems alot of people thought she was the worst dressed.

A Cranberry Dress for Charity!

molly-sims

Designer Kevan Hall showed an interesting piece at his fashion show earlier this week.

The designer put together a dress made of 2,000 real cranberries.

Apparently, he made it to coincide with the launch of a new Dial® Antioxidant Body Wash with Cranberry & Antioxidant Pearls.

The dress, which Molly Sims wore to the fashion show,  is being auctioned on ClothesOffOurBack.org right now.

It’ll benefit children’s charities including The Children’s Institute.

I know some of y’all are wondering but the cranberries aren’t edible.

The folks at Dial confirm that the “food stylists” dried the berries at a temperature of 100ºF for 15 hours before putting them on the dress.

According to Neilsen ratings, ANTM was the most watched show on in that hour among females between 12 and 34.

Apparently, viewing doubled in the second half hour among adult viewers, including men.

Interesting, indeed.

$5 All-Day Shopping Pass!

macys-logo1

How does paying $5 for an all-day shopping pass sound?

Then picture that $5 helping to save the environment.

A pretty good reason to join Macy’s for the One Good Turn national charity shopping day at their stores on April 25, 2009.

Last year, the department stores teamed up with the National Park Foundation and raised more than $2.9 million in 2008.

This year’s event helps important local nonprofit organizations that protect and conserve the environment.

Tickets for One Good Turn go on sale later this month. The $5 will get you an all-day shopping pass for 20 percent off men’s, women’s, kid’s, and accessories merchandise, and 10 percent off most home items.

Don’t forget it, folks — April 25!
