It’s All Prada in Rockefeller Center

27 Apr

Prada and Sunglass Hut have made Rockefeller Center more exciting for fashion fanatics.

If you walk by the existing Sunglass Hut store at that location from tomorrow to May 5, it may look a little different.

That’s because Prada and the sunglasses store have operned a temporary eyewear concept store there.

The temporary boutique will offer exclusive and special edition Prada sunglasses.

If you can’t make it there before May 5, the sunglass collection will be available online at www.sunglasshut.com after that date.

If you’re in California, Florida, New York, and Nevada, you might notice a similar concept dedicated to Prada in nine area stores.

Be sure to check out sunglasshut.com for the Prada minisite this week, too!

Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman Feed America

27 Apr

It’s always pretty cool when swanky retailers do their part to help make the world a better place.

Neiman Marcus stores and Bergdorf Goodman are great examples this week.

They’re helping Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization, raise funds to feed those who need food most.

The stores will do this through “The Good Event” Thursday, April 30 through Saturday, May 2.

How can you help?
Simply head in to Neiman Marcus customers and purchase a $40 non-transferable donation card in the Contemporary Sportswear, Sport Shop, Dress Collections and Men’s Contemporary Sportswear departments.

You will receive a 30 percent discount on full-priced merchandise in these select areas.

Bergdorf Goodman will also provide a 30 percent discount off full-priced merchandise in their 5F contemporary department.

100% of your $40 donation will support the Feeding America network with the majority of the funds going toward the stores’ area member food bank; the remainder will support national programs.

What Grey Goose and Brooke Shields Have in Common

25 Apr

rr_roy_hat

The Rachel Roy designed hat which Brooke Shields will wear to the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby.

Every now and then, we come across unlikely and seemingly random partnerships.

But I’ll excuse this one since it helps support a good cause.

On to the deets…

GREY GOOSE (yes, the vodka) has joined forces with fashion designer, Rachel Roy, to create a chic and sophisticated hat to be worn exclusively by Brooke Shields at the Kentucky Derby next Saturday.

It’ll be the race’s 135th running after which the hat will be autographed by the designer, Rachel Roy and actress, Brooke Shields.

Then it’ll be auctioned on the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation website May 3-16.

100% of the proceeds will benefit The Barnstable-Brown Foundation to support diabetes research.

The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) will display the ensemble designed by Isabel Toledo and worn by First Lady Michelle Obama on Inauguration Day.

The move is part of the Museum’s upcoming mid-career retrospective of the designer’s work.

Isabel Toledo: Fashion from the Inside Out runs June 17 to September 26, 2009.

We’re told that the exhibition also will include approximately 70 iconic looks by Isabel Toledo dating back to the mid-eighties.

The Museum’s in New York on the southwest corner of Seventh Avenue at 27th Street.

Exhibition hours are Tuesday through Friday, noon to 8 pm; Saturday 10 am to 5pm; closed Sundays, Mondays, and legal holidays.

Anytime you see designer pieces at prices like $14.99, it’s more than likely Target and their GO International program.

This time it’s Tracy Feith, known for his signature bold prints and great fit.

He’s designed the next limited-edition collection for GO International, which will launch on Target.com/go and at most Target stores nationwide on May 17.

Target’s celebrating this one as “warm weather must-haves” that are “amazingly priced.”

You be the judge. Check out the pics.

Every five-inch-heel-loving fashionista needs to get casual every now and then.

adidas has launched a pretty cool option to help us stand out–even in sneakers and sweats.

They’ve launched “mi Originals” so you can design and personalize your sneakers online, anytime and anywhere.

Only four options are available for customization so far but the athletic brand promises to add more throughout 2009.

“All shoes can be customized in terms of colors and fabrics while almost every visible footwear component- such as eye stay, shoe laces, outsole and the iconic 3-Stripes- can be personalized,” they say.

And just like the Nike option that launched a while back, you can also personalize your own individual embroidery on the shoe.

Check out www.miOriginals.com/us or visit the adidas Originals Atelier store in Soho, NYC to craft your own sneakers.

Designer Spotlight :: Thread Social

A few weeks ago, I came across Thread Social’s Fall ’09 collection.

This fun, party-girl line packs a whole lot of youthful energy and is thoughtfully played up with bows and other stand-out notions.

Nicole Boucher, PR contact, shared some insight on what inspired the Fall ’09 pieces.

“The collection was inspired kind of by the idea of a girl going into her mother’s closet, finding these great 70′s French-sophisticate pieces and putting them together in her own way.”

Visit ThreadSocial.com for more deets or follow them on Twitter.
