Shontelle: Fresh Sound, Fresh Style

shontelle-one

Singer, Shontelle gave the T-Shirt a new twist when her debut single (titled “T-Shirt”) hit the charts last year.

Since then we’ve heard from her and Akon on the “Confessions of A Shopaholic” soundtrack with “Stuck with Each Other.”

In this interview, the leggy Barbados-born artist dishes on when she sold her soul to Louis Vuitton and explains why she’d want to be Oprah’s handbag — if she could!

Who were your fashion icons before you got signed?
I have always loved Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Diana Ross, Heidi Klum, Sienna Miller, Penelope Cruz, Victoria Beckham, Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell! Rihanna and Katy Perry are 2 of my new favs.

Now that you’ve got access to a seemingly endless supply of clothing, what are your favorite labels?
OMG! What are you trying to start here? I love so many brands but I must say there are a few that consistently grab my attention: Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney, Valentino Garavani, DSquared, Chip and Pepper, Tripp, D&G, Hermes, Alexander Mcqueen, Betsey Johnson, Jimmy Choo, Herve Leger and anything by Max Azria (BCBG), Bebe, Ralph Lauren and the list goes on and on and on!

Since you began your international music career, what’s been your favorite fashion moment?
I think my fav fashion moment was when I shot the T-Shirt video. I wore a pastel peach colored Herve Leger dress and a hot pair of gold Jimmy Choos. Now I’ve worn many brands and many outfits but I just love the way that dress fits my body so perfectly and the color accentuates my skin tone. Legs aint lookin too bad either! I also really enjoyed rockin’ the runway with Elle and Caravan during New York Fashion week ’08. Continue reading

Bravo Making Big Plans

Pretty soon, we’ll be struggling to fit a gazillion fashion-inspired TV shows into our already hectic viewing schedules.

Bravo has just announced a pretty hefty slate of reality TV programming  fashionistas will heart.

LAUNCH MY LINE

“Launch My Line,” (previously announced as “Celebrity Sew-Off”)  is gonna be Bravo’s newest fashion competition series. It’ll probably compete fiercely with Lifetime-bound “Project Runway.” The show features 10 established fashion designers paired with pop culture notables, who are highly regarded in their own field of expertise, but have always dreamed of having their own line.

The notables will work with the established designers to bring their vision to life and create a fashion line. In the end, one team will be declared the winner and the notable will win a chance to launch their own fashion line.

Hosts will be twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 (Yaay!). Stephanie Greenfield and Lisa Klein will serve as judges.

SECRET LIFE OF SUPERMODELS

Bravo will take viewers behind the scenes of supermodels’ lives. They’ll look past the jet-setting and catwalk galloping  at the models’ “unusual passions,” complicated relationships and every day problems.

The docu-series will feature supermodels Carol Alt, Maggie Rizer, Frederique Van Der Wal, Mariel Hemingway, Irina Pantaeva and Patricia Velasquez, showing how they come together to deal with work and relationships outside of the modeling world.

“The Rachel Zoe Project” will return for a second season, while “The Fashion Show” hosted by Kelly Rowland and Isaac Mizrahi will also make its debut.

Also look out for “Double Exposure,” featuring photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani, along with high-end stylist GK Reid.

It’s gonna be crazy!

Support Fashion’s Future

Two Mondays from now when FIT on the Catwalk kicks off, fashion’s future could look a whole lot brighter.

The Fashion Institute of Technology’s top graduating design students will have their designs  presented at the school’s annual end-of-year runway show.

Pieces created by select students about to receive the BFA degree in Fashion Design will appear on the runway in two shows on April 27, one at 4:30 pm and another at 7:30 pm.

They’ll both take place in the John E. Reeves Great Hall at FIT, Seventh Avenue at 27th Street.

The young designers will also vie for awards from Cotton Incorporated, the lead sponsor of the fashion show.

And get this. Kate Betts, Patricia Field, Lisa Smilor, Erica Sonner, Zang Toi, and Robert Verdi will make up a judging panel for other awards to be given to students for their designs.

Support it if you can!

Oscar De la Renta Clears Things Up

Oscar De la Renta appeared on “The View” today to clear a few things up.

The fashion designer recently came under fire for an interview with Women’s Wear Daily in which he disagreed with Michelle Obama’s fashion choices on the recently concluded presidential European tour.

“The First Lady of this country is entitled to dress anyway she wants,” said De la Renta on the talk show today.

He went on to add that he chose his words badly.

De la Renta also confirmed he was “jealous” of designers who have dressed the First Lady so far and indicated it was something he’d like to do in the future, along with dressing Whoopi!

Thanks for clearing things up, Oscar. We respect that.

Watch today’s show.
