Celebrity Style Moments :: Amber Rose, Ciara, Fergie, Rihanna, Whitney Port

24 Jul

This week, a few celebrities stayed true to summer trends.

I love how Fergie rocked a colorful Anna Sui romper, bright handbag and gold chain necklaces on her way to work–at a recording studio, that is.

While Amber Rose cemented her new modeling career by hitting up a Guess event in a leather vest, checkered top and skinny jeans–mixing up summer and fall looks.

Sure, it’s when the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant will air.

But it’s also a night when an interesting lineup of artists, including Heidi Montag, will perform.

“The Hills” star, who once had a fashion line with Anchor Blue, will perform her single “Turn Ya Head.” The song comes from Montag’s debut album, “Unleashed,” which, according to a Miss Universe release, was released in July. (Did I miss that?!)

Kelly Rowland, co-host of one of Bravo’s newest series, “The Fashion Show,” will also perform with David Guetta.

The competition will be broadcast live from Atlantis, Paradise Island, The Bahamas on NBC and Telemundo.

Nordstrom Launches Twilight Fashion and Jewelry Collection

23 Jul

News broke today the Nordstrom has cooked up a pretty interesting partnership.

The store will launch a fashion and jewelry collection inspired by the highly anticipated Nov. 20 release of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”

That’s the followup to “Twilight,” which had some fashion-loving folk running around trying to find this jacket by BB Dakota, which was featured in the film.

We’re told that Nordstrom’s movie-inspired collection will be available at nordstrom.com/newmoon beginning Oct. 1 and in the BP. department at Nordstrom stores beginning Oct. 15.

Expect fitted screened T-shirts, tanks and hoodies that reflect the mood and spirit of the film. Apparently, there’ll be T-shirts featuring film-related lines such as “Bet You Can’t Read My Mind” and imagery such as “Forks High School Phys. Ed. Dept.” and the tattoo design worn by the werewolf pack.

Price points? $32 to $58.

The jewelry will be silver and gold-plated and will include necklaces, bracelets, earrings and key fobs. “I love Edward” and “I love Jacob” heart pendants hang from chains, and bracelets and key fobs feature film-related charms including Bella’s truck, Jacob’s motorcycle, vampire family crests, a moon, wolf and feather.

Nike Responds to Greenpeace’s Call

22 Jul

NIKE has done the Green movement proud.

The company stepped up today to help slow the rate of Amazon deforestation due to cattle grazing within the basin through new leather sourcing guidelines.

Greenpeace identified that cattle grazing for meat production, and leather as a by-product of meat production, are contributors to Amazon deforestation.

In a release, the company reinforced, “Nike can say with a high level of certainty that leather used in Nike products is not sourced within the Amazon basin.”

However, recognizing that there is no current leather traceability system to track the origins of leather with 100 percent confidence Nike has released a policy that requires suppliers to establish a traceability system over the coming year.

They’ve also signed Greenpeace’s ‘Commit or Cancel’ principles, which call for a moratorium on deforestation.

How Much of Project Runway is Enough?

LIFETIME TELEVISION 'PROJECT RUNWAY'

Oh my!

I’m suffering from Project Runway overload.

And the new season hasn’t even started.

Today Lifetime Television and The Weinstein Company announced that eight former fan favorites and Project Runway “superstars” are returning to the catwalk to compete against one another in a two-hour special.

It’s called, “Project Runway: All-Star Challenge,” which premieres Thursday, August 20, at 8PM ET/PT. The designers will compete for a $100,000 cash prize.

When that’s done, the the sixth season of “Project Runway” will premiere at 10PM ET/PT, followed by “Models of the Runway,” at 11PM ET/PT.

I’m certain that all the fashion fans out there are delighted that “Project Runway’s” fate didn’t suffer in the drama that unfolded with Bravo earlier this year.

But would I be off the mark if I said a few of us may just want “Project Runway” the way it once was –without models and castoffs complicating things? (more…)

31 Rising Fashion Design Icons Make Cut

21 Jul

The Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Board of Directors has added 31 new designers to its membership.

The list was ratified on July 14 and publicly released on the Council’s web site today.

Among the new privileged group are some well known names.

Lorraine Schwartz, jewelry designer, perhaps further popularized by an envied mention on a Jay-Z record, makes the cut.

The Council also welcomes Jason Wu, who caught the First Lady’s attention and set the fashion world abuzz during Inauguration festivities.

The Olsen twins for their ELIZABETH & JAMES, and THE ROW, earn a place among the chosen few, with the CFDA release also noting their business’ expansion to include menswear–a project which will debut in the Fall.

Erin Fetherston, selected to design a Go International line for Target in 2007, Alexander Wang, and Marcella and Johan Lindeberg of William Rast fame, are other names which jump off the page.

Kimora: Baby Phat, Phat Farm and Fabulosity Safe

21 Jul

In response to swirling speculation about Baby Phat’s future, Kimora Lee Simmons today issued a curt statement, hinting at possible reorganization at Kellwood Company.

As has been recently reported in the press, Kellwood Company is exploring a number of opportunities to strengthen the company’s financial position, including a possible restructure.

Whatever course that Kellwood should take, I want to ensure my consumers and supporters that this will have no effect on our Phat Fashions business which includes Baby Phat, Phat Farm, and Fabulosity brands, and all of their respective categories. All of Phat Fashions products, including Baby Phat apparel are licensed and manufactured by separate companies operating as licensees, not Kellwood Company, and therefore are operated as independent entities. Therefore, Kellwood’s actions will have no impact on the manufacturing and delivery of our goods. We will continue to take fashion to new heights and provide the same fabulous products for a glamorous lifestyle. All of our businesses remain strong and Baby Phat has recently expanded internationally into over 100 territories. I am, as always dedicated to bringing confidence, beauty and fashion to women all over the world. It’s still the same sexy, sassy and stylish brand that you have known for the past 15 years.

Meanwhile, in Twitterville, all appeared business as usual at Baby Phat today.

“Summer Sizzle…Shop the newest, hottest looks from the Pre-Fall Baby Phat collection. Click link to view. http://www.babyphat.com/shop.php,”  tweeted @BabyPhat.
