On a night when the shadow of Whitney Houston’s death hung over the red carpet, the 54th Grammy Awards was a mixed bag of style.

Demure and ornate seemed to be the order of the evening; black made a comeback; and the usual envelope pushers popped up.

Enter Nicki Minaj, whose red-riding-hood inspired Versace couture getup got tongues wagging, as did her choice to accessorize with a Pope impersonator.

Red Carpet Alert :: 54th Annual Grammy Awards

Save the date.

February 12, 2012 will signal one of the biggest red-carpet events of next year’s awards season.

Wednesday night, The Recording Academy announced nominations for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, giving us a hint about who we’re likely to see attending the LIVE show next year.

No doubt an eclectic mix of the best and brightest in music in 2011, the nominee list is indicating that it’s shaping up to be an exciting red carpet for the 2012 show, with artists like Beyonce, Cee-Lo Green, Kanye West, Kelly Rowland, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Taylor Swift all getting nods.

Just after midday Monday, Giorgio Armani announced that Rihanna is the new global face for two of its leading brands.

The Barbadian singer will represent Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans from autumn/winter 2011-2012.

She joins celebs like Cristiano Ronaldo and Victoria Beckham, who represent the Emporio Armani globally.
