I’ll be honest. I did not watch the Super Bowl for the game. I watched for the ads…and the halftime show…and the fashion.
And, in spite of what many might believe, there was loads of style to take in at the Arlington, Texas event.
Let’s begin with Fergie, who had the unenviable honor of being the first female to perform during the halftime show since Janet Jackson’s 2004 snafu. As she descended on stage with her all-boy supporting cast, it was clear there would be no wardrobe malfunction take two. (Disappointing, I know!)
During the performance, I invariably found myself digging her illuminated, ironclad, glittery performance top in all its malfunction-proof glory. Oh. And her outrageous nails. Sick!
Christina Aguilera, who should have made style news today for her demure suit, fabulous sparkly-toed shoes and standard scarlet lip, unfortunately did not. Something tells me we’ll remember less of what she was wearing and more of the two lines she forgot by the time Super Bowl XLVI rolls around.
In a rare moment for this blog, I will not conclude without mentioning Slash’s extremely cool Supra footwear, which he rocked last night. It turns out the shoe brand partnered with the guitarist to create a customized, handmade pair of skytops, inspired by his love of snakes, it reported on its blog today.
