Yesterday, after meeting super blogger Bryanboy at Tysons Galleria, I headed to Tysons Corner Center with Ayanna, my shopping accomplice since college days.

While at the popular Virginia mall, I played a game of trendspotting, making notes of what’s haute and happening right now.

Here are the fabulous items I fell in love with, guaranteed to give you a head start on holiday shopping and list-making.

We had hardly been in Sephora for 60 seconds when the Formula X for Sephora display caught Ayanna’s eye. Within seconds, we were testing the Xplosives top coat, a beautiful splatter-effect polish. I brushed it on over my nude manicure and the result was edgy, fun, and quick drying. And at $12.50, it’s not only trendy but also frugalista approved. Learn more.

After our adventure at the Sephora nail polish counter, we stumbled across Sephora + Pantone Color IQ. Within moments, I was sitting at the Beauty Studio having my skin scanned by a device, which detected my Pantone SkinTone number was 2Y12. The in-store app instantly delivered search results of foundations that would be a great match, solving my makeup matching issues in a pinch. What’s more, the consultation was free. Find a Sephora near you.

From dazzling blue to cayenne to orange, shelves and racks everywhere are loaded with colorful clothing. During my stroll through the mall, it was obvious that colorful accessories are all the rage, too. And in a world where not everyone is brave enough to rock a pants in an electric hue or a shockingly bright dress, the vibrant, bold handbag or purse is the perfect way to get in on this season’s color trends.

As we wandered around the home section at Macy’s, it was hard not to acknowledge the popularity of the super appliance. From the Ninja Mega Kitchen (pictured) to the NutriBullet, they were everywhere. Right there and then, I had to admit that the sad six-speed blender I’ve come to know and love is merely a relic. If you’re like me–in love with deliciously creamy smoothies and soups and focused on eating right, the super appliance is a shop-worthy trend or a great addition to your holiday wishlist. Browsing Anthropologie yesterday, I discovered the most beautiful journals.  Why keep a journal in a world of iPads and tablets and blogs? The truth is,  there’s just something about putting pen to paper and connecting with my thoughts. And based on the number on the shelves, it’s clear I’m not alone in disconnecting from technology every now and then to reflect, recharge and decompress. Learn more.
