I’m proud to be working my way into the frugalista movement–a group of women who are smart about their money. They’re clipping coupons, skipping expensive outings and attempting more DIY (do-it-yourself) projects.

And DIY includes everything from home improvement projects to personal beauty.

So as the week closed, I dug into my nail polish basket and attempted a festive manicure. 

My choices (left to right):

• OPI “Pirouette My Whistle” (sparkly top coat)
• Urban Outfitters Nail Color in “Tusk”
• Essie “Lilacism” (accent nails)

Plus, Out The Door quick-dry top coat for a fast finish.

With questionable dexterity, a hope and a prayer, I got to work.

The result? A fun, at-home manicure, which I’m pretty pleased with–and about $25 in nail salon savings. With more practice and creativity, I’m excited to see what else I can come up with.
