Just before my birthday, I had an impulsive thought to invite a few friends over for a celebration. I wanted it to be a good lime: casual, yet elegant; elegant without being expensive. And with little time to pull it together, I had to be smart and fast with my planning.
This post is about how it all came together. It also includes my tips on where to go for party supplies in Barbados.
Much to my mom’s horror, I sprayed perfectly edible pineapples gold to add “wow” to my table. The stands were cereal bowls turned over. Total cost: under BDS$40 (BDS$2 = US$1)
Buying these flowers was tricky because Barbados has been ridiculously hot. I had to keep them indoors because of the intense heat outside. Each imported flower was under BDS$10 from Hastings Flower Mart, displayed in kilner bottles I already owned.

I considered not having balloons because of my vision for an elegant affair. Balloons are for kids, right? But I’m happy I went with them after all. The all-white theme really worked out well and each balloon, filled with helium and strung was BDS$7 at The Party Club Store.
No matter where I looked in Barbados, I couldn’t find these handy little things which restaurants use. So, I used gold binder clips from my local stationery store instead. Under BDS$2 each.
Snacks and Sweets
Because I was planning at the last minute, I had to go with mostly store-bought snacks and sweets. I displayed most things in glass canisters and on serve ware I already owned.
I really couldn’t have pulled it off without the quick turnaround from Ladyfingers Cake and Pastry Shop, who were totally accommodating and delivered a delightful order of cookies and a beautiful cake in no time!
Although I just had a few friends over, my at-home seating wasn’t going to be enough. I popped by TCD Rentals and picked up a few white folding chairs to keep my guests comfy. Pickup was easy (they all fit in my trunk) and they were a steal at under BDS$5 each.
And that’s how it all panned out. It was the perfect start to birthday celebrations at home with a few of my faves.
