Every now and then, I get glaring reminders of my singleness. They pop up in various places.
Sometimes it’s a gurgling baby on the train, or a young family lunching together in a restaurant. Other times, it’s an I’m-pregnant or I’m-engaged text from a close friend. (Congrats, y’all!)
Am I bitter? Growing impatient? Losing hope?
I’m not a guy but every now and then, a great menswear collection stops me in my tracks.
This time around, it’s Louis Vuitton’s Spring-Summer 2014 offering.
Inspired by the American road trip, this collection is college-prep-meets-professional. And although it screams sophistication, it is far from stodgy.
I’m a PR girl. So I’ve got a thing for designer collaborations and celebrity partnerships in the beauty and fashion worlds. Yes, I think thing is the right term.
Recently, I’ve been doing research for school on whether they work or not. Does an H&M partnership with Karl Lagerfeld bring more store sales? Or does a Madonna and Macy’s pairing create magic on the bottom line?
It looks like the jury’s still out on how much high-profile collaborations mean for business in the end.
But as a consumer, here’s what I think: they’re fun to shop, explore online and help me discover new design talent and hidden celebrity talents.
Enter the most intriguing collaboration announcements and comebacks du jour.
Sure, I might have pledged to be more of a frugalista in 2013. But I’m still keeping a close eye on luxury.
Enter Louis Vuitton and the A/W 2013 collection presented in Paris this morning.
It was minimalist and mesmerizing.
Marc Jacobs juxtaposed menswear tailoring and super-feminine silhouettes and remixed the iconic Louis Vuitton handbags we’ve come to know and love.
So I have a mild obsession with Rihanna.
She’s a powerful pop culture brand. And she’s from Barbados, my hometown.
So when announcements like a Rihanna for River Island unveiling at London Fashion Week come around, I get all kinds of giddy.
Here are the details on the big reveal.
As crowds thronged to New York City for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I huddled over my MacBook Pro for a virtual front-row seat.
There has been a lot to take in. And just about three days shy of its September 13 end, I’ve singled out my favorites so far.

Last week, for my big move to Washington, DC, I packed what seemed like my entire life into three suitcases. So much that it barely seemed legal by airline industry standards.
That said, I was relieved–yet a little disappointed–when I got word of Louis Vuitton’s Art of Packing guide. Disappointed only because I wish I had discovered this feature way earlier!
