It’s NY Fashion Week Time Again!

It’s that time of year again!

In counting down to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, we’ll be taking a look at the behind-the-scenes prep.

This week, it’s American Express in the spotlight.

They’ve announced their plans for February 14-15.

  • Continued support of designers and the fashion industry with a $250,000 donation to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund (CVFF), a program of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). The CVFF program helps emerging American design talent find continued success in the business of fashion by providing ongoing support.
  • The comeback of the Skybox! Platinum Card® and Gold Card members will be able to view the runway shows from the highly popular and newly-designed American Express® Skybox, providing an up-close view of the runways; packages are available today at www.americanexpress.com/entertainment.  (If you’re still balling in the midst of the recession! :p)
  • Card members will have access to highly-coveted reservations at a selection of New York’s most-buzzed about restaurants, providing additional entrée into the destinations and venues they love.

Crocs for Kids!

There’s a really cool charity out there that’s just given away 10,000 pairs of Crocs.

They’re the Brother’s Brother Foundation.

And they’ve shipped them all to Guatemala for impoverished children and their families.

The gift is valued at $100,000.

Oh, one more thing.

The shoes are made from recycled materials–a great thing for our environment.

But I can’t help but wonder…If they’re so poor, why not send them food instead?

Brother’s Brother says the shoes go a long way in preventing serious parasite and skin infections, common among poor children around the world who go barefoot.

That’s a good enough explanation, I think.

Daddy Yankee’s First Fragrance

What next?

Last week Billboard.biz reported Daddy Yankee was launching his own fragrance line.

Reggaetón star Daddy Yankee is launching his own cologne, DY, which will be distributed exclusively in Macy’s stores beginning this month. DY, which was developed by Givaudan Fragrances, is being marketed and distributed via an agreement with Falic Fashion Group (FFG), which in turn is owned by Duty Free Americas (DFA), which owns and operates more than 100 duty-free stores in airports and at borders.

The launch of DY will be supported by a multi-media advertising campaign that includes billboards, print media ads and television spots, as well as billing in the Panasonic giant screen in Times Square.

DY will be sold in 1.7 and 3.4 fluid ounce sizes, retailing for $39 and $49 respectively. A DY deodorant will retail for $14.

The reggaeton star has  confirmed with the launch of a MySpace Video for “First Fragrance.”
