Barbie’s 50th…The Celebration Continues

Is this Barbie 50th anniversary stuff going overboard?

I’ll leave that for you to decide.

But Barbie lovers would be interested in knowing that the doll celebrated her 50th today by unveiling a new face and throwing a pink-carpet birthday bash at her real Malibu Dream House.

Apparently, the new Bathing Suit Barbie doll is a modernized version of the original 1959 doll and pays homage to Barbie doll’s original 1959 price by offering the new doll for $3 during Barbie® doll’s birthday week.

That’s March 9-14 at participating retailers nationwide.

Dora the Explorer Gets A Makeover

It’s about time!

Dora the Explorer is getting a new look.

Honestly, I’ve always thought she was a tad unfashionable — a horrible influence on the very impressionable fashion sense of little girls! LOL

Just to give you an example, each month an average of 21.1 million viewers, including 6 million preschoolers, tune into the TV show.

In her new life, tweenage Dora moves to the big city, attends middle school and has “a whole new fashionable look,” according to a statement released today. “The doll really taps into a tween’s love of fashion,” reps said.

Nickelodeon and Mattel plan to keep Dora’s new look a secret until the brand launch in Fall 2009.

Stay tuned!

Barbie at Bryant Park!

Who would’ve imagined?

At this very moment, a team of workers is getting ready for the first-ever Barbie Runway Show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

It’s in celebration of  Barbie’s 50-year anniversary.

And on February 14, 2009, 50 world-renowned fashion designers will come together to showcase real-size, Barbie-inspired looks.

It takes place in the Tent at Bryant Park.

A statement released by Barbie indicates designer names would be announced in early February.

Nothing official from Barbie yet, but WWD has named Alexander Wang, Kimora Lee Simmons, Tory Burch, Calvin Klein, Bob Mackie, Vera Wang, Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg as participating designers.

If you’re a fan, you’ll probably want to check out the runway show on February 14, 2009 to be webcast live on

New Barbie Videogame

A new Barbie videogame for young fashionistas has been launched.

It’s called “Barbie Fashion Show: An Eye for Style” and is available to Nintendo DS and PC users.

The game takes players to the world of high fashion as they design their own outfits and orchestrate their own fashion show.

From concept to catwalk the player can put their personalized touch on every element of the fashion show from the design of the outfits to the models’ hair, shoes, and poses to the runway colors, lighting, and music.

New features include two “couples” shows where you can dress the guys as well as thousands of new clothing, fabric, and stage options.

Have fun, Barbie fans!
