I’m proud to be working my way into the frugalista movement–a group of women who are smart about their money. They’re clipping coupons, skipping expensive outings and attempting more DIY (do-it-yourself) projects.
And DIY includes everything from home improvement projects to personal beauty.
So as the week closed, I dug into my nail polish basket and attempted a festive manicure.
Today, I walked the corridors of my local mall in search of a cool, summery nail color. I wasn’t looking for neon, bright or bold. I wanted something cool.
In an unexpected twist–after making stops at several beauty stores–my search came up empty. There were plenty shocking shades, not enough subdued.
Little did I know that Lilacism by Essie was waiting in the aisles of Target. For a small spend of $7.79, I got the end result I was hoping for–an absolutely calming hue to round out Summer!

Essie nail polish has gone French!
On Monday, the brand revealed French Affair, its new collection for Spring 2011.

We’ve seen celebs sporting everything from funky brights and metallics to patterned and minx nail styles, on and off the red carpet. Our favs include Annalynne McCord, Serena Williams and Scarlett Johansson.

Today, beauty media outlets buzzed about the newest acquisition in that market.
Estée Lauder has closed a deal in which they will buy Smashbox Beauty Cosmetics, Inc. The acquisition is expected to close in July 2010, subject to certain closing conditions, including regulatory approval, a release issued today said.
Just last month, L’Oréal USA announced that it would acquire Essie Cosmetics, the nail color company founded by Essie Weingarten in 1981.
The purchase price of neither transaction was disclosed.
