Obama-mania continues!

The Council of Fashion Designers of America will honor First Lady Michelle Obama at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards.

She’ll receive a Board of Directors’ Special Tribute.

Narciso Rodriguez and Jason Wu, both designers to the First Lady, have been nominated for awards, with Marc Jacobs receiving quite a few nominations.

The official announcement of nominees and honorees was made last night at an exclusive event hosted by Swarovski (lead sponsor of the Awards) and the CFDA Board of Directors at the Rooftop Gardens at Rockefeller Center.

The CFDA Fashion Awards take place June 15.

Yves Saint Laurent’s Loot

A Forbes report is suggesting that when Yves Saint Laurent’s art collection goes on sale in a few weeks, the whole affair could rake in as much as $390 m.

Apparently, art lovers are calling it “sale of the century.”

Good news is, proceeds from the sale will go to two charitable foundations set up by Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé (YSL’s partner).

Not too shabby, is it?

Michael Kors Getting Sued!

Michael Kors is getting hit with a lawsuit for trademark infringement and “other causes of action.”

Sounds strange for an A-list designer, doesn’t it?

Anyhow, the party filing suit is Tony Duquette, Inc., which controls the  intellectual property rights associated with the late designer and artist Tony Duquette.

They allege that Kors infringed the Duquette proprietary name and trademark by producing and marketing a Kors Resort Collection using the name Duquette without permission.

The Duquette clan is also claiming that Kors used the Abrams book “Tony Duquette,” photographs, images and patterns from the book, and images of Duquette and his long time business associate and co-designer, Hutton Wilkinson, in advertising and promoting the Kors collection.

Damages and injunctive relief are sought.

No word on the amount yet. Stay tuned.
