Did Macy’s get cooler all of a sudden? Maybe they did.
Wednesday’s announcement that they’ve formed a partnership with Madonna for a new collection, although unexpected, seems pretty cool.
Do I care that the new “Material Girl” collection is for juniors only? No. The fact is, it’s Madonna.
In stores from August 2010, it’s being labeled a “fast-fashion junior collection” with some pretty realistic price points, I should add.
To be specific, that’s$12 to $40 for a collection designed by Madonna and her daughter Lourdes.
“Material Girl” includes footwear, handbags and jewelry at the moment but will also touch the lifestyle and beauty sectors, including fragrance, beginning in 2011.

In this recession, we’re still looking to cash in on great deals even though we’re watching our pennies.
But if an item from the Coach store is on your shopping list, don’t look for any major reductions there.
According to Lew Frankfort, Chairman and CEO of Coach, Inc., their brand philosophy won’t allow them to discount Coach store inventory.
“We achieved our goal of providing consumers with truly innovative product offering compelling value, while holding true to our full-priced proposition by not discounting in our retail stores to protect our brand integrity” he said in a second quarter earnings statement.
He also gave a sneak peek on what’s coming up for spring.
- Penelope, which launched the day after Christmas
- In the third quarter – Heritage Stripe in February
- In March – the new Parker collection in March.
- A wider variety of price points for customers who may be “more reluctant to spend.”

French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy is suing a fashion chain for selling bags emblazoned with nude images of her.
This is just the latest legal action over the presidential couple’s image.
I never thought I’d say this.
But I might be adding Payless to the list of one of the first places I shop in the fall.
That’s because Payless ShoeSource has signed a deal with Christian Siriano!
Yep! You heard me right!
The season four Project Runway winner will create the Christian Siriano for Payless designer label — his first-ever footwear and handbag collection.
The new collection will be unveiled at Siriano’s runway show at New York Fashion Week next February.
It will be exclusively available in Payless stores and Payless.com in fall ’09.
The deal covers multi-season collections including footwear and handbags for women. Price points are expected to be in the $25 – $45 range.
