An Evening with Sheryl Sandberg: What I Learned

Sheryl Sandberg

It seems like everyone’s doing it.

Thanks to Sheryl Sandberg, we’re now part of a Lean In generation.

I’ve got to admit, I’m a bit late to the Lean In party. But last night, I made up for it when I attended an executive lecture series at which Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg was the featured guest.

Flanked by two gal pals in a standing-room only Howard University auditorium, I sat on the edge of my seat, listening with rapt attention, trying to glean all I could from the 60-minute event.

In DC for Inauguration? See Diddy for Free.

Every now and then, some great things happen at Howard University.

On MLK Day (You should know that it’s Jan 19), the campus will host “Refresh the World.”

It’s a symposium on education, economy, gender, hip hop and Black America.

Appearing will be fashion mogul Sean Combs, Cover Girl Queen Latifah, Spike Lee, Rev. Al Sharpton and Dr. Cornel West.

Tickets are free but limited–if you go to school in the area and only on a first-come-first-served basis at the Howard University box office.

Another Retailer Cashes in on The Inauguration

In such a stinky economy, retailers are trying to make money however they can.

Now Ashely Stewart Stores has indicated that they will host  a special “Celebrating History” event on Monday, January 19, 2009.

Ashley Stewart will mark Prez-elect Obama’s inauguration by

  • offering customers a 15% discount off of their entire purchase
  • providing customers with “Yes We Can” t-shirts for $10.00 at all 218 locations.
  • providing music and entertainment in stores and light refreshments at select locations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Chicago, DC/Baltimore, and Maryland,
  • distributing “Yes We Can” pins as a free gift with purchase for customers shopping in stores on that day

Go on into Ashley Stewart and get some free stuff.

The retailer will also be donating 5% of proceeds from the day’s sales to a scholarship fund for students at Howard University (my alma mater!!!)  in Washington, DC.
