First it was Target’s Harlem store, now it’s Payless.
Isabel Toledo, perhaps better known for designing Michelle Obama’s presidential inauguration dress, has launched an affordable collection at the popular off-price shoe retailer.

Christian Siriano for Payless. alice + olivia for Payless. Lela Rose for Payless.
If you haven’t checked out either of these designer summer collections, you might just be pleasantly surprised.
When you think of “Sex and The City 2,” Payless ShoeSource probably hardly ever comes to mind.
But after today, it just might. Patricia Field, costume designer for the movie, has designed a SATC2-inspired piece for the retail shoe chain.
You may not want to wear their shoes, but you should try and stop by a Payless store soon.
From now until December 31, they’re offering this reusable shopping bag for $1.99.
Payless will donate $1 – the cost to plant one tree — from each bag sale to the Plant a Billion Trees campaign.
Their target is to plant 100,000 trees through program.
That’s pretty awesome!
When news of Christian Siriano’s collection for Payless broke, the buzz was almost deafening.
With New York Fashion Week over and done, I can’t help but wonder how the Project Runway winner will cope where sales are concerned.
The way I see it, in the end, it will be the discriminating fashionista who determines the fate of the Payless-Siriano partnership.
Will she make the trek to the traditionally low priced footwear store to snap up Christian’s collection?
Only time will tell.
Meanwhile, in case you missed it, click on the thumbnails to see what Siriano brought at his New York Fashion Week runway show.
Here’s more video of the runway shows at NYFW.
This time, it’s Lela Rose, whose collection demonstrated that the one-shoulder trend is making a comeback — as is the belted waist look.
Btw, Lela Rose recently partnered with Payless — her most recent project being a line of dyeables for the shoe store chain.
Christian Siriano will reveal his first-ever shoe and accessories collection in true “high-low” fashion on the runway at New York Fashion Week beginning tomorrow.
In case you haven’t heard, his line is for the Payless Fall ’09 Designer Collections.
Christian’s work with the low-budget shoe store hits the runway next Thursday. The line will complement his Fall ’09 RTW collection.
We’re told each style features Christian’s unique chunky conical heel — designed to look like an inverted pyramid. Golden tones, pyramid studs, hieroglyphic fabric and snakeskin materials also echo his Egyptian inspiration.
Other designers joining him on the project include Laura Poretzky, Lela Rose and Stacey Bendet.
Payless Fall ’09 designer footwear and handbag collections will hit stores in the fall, with average price points at under $45 an item.
