Just over a week ago, Serena Williams appeared in the “Nailing It” summer trend feature.
Now the tennis player has got my attention with more on-court nail swagger.

Most people probably didn’t watch the French Open yesterday but today, it’s making water cooler news.
Why? In two words: Venus Williams.

We heard today that Maria Sharapova will be the face of the Cole Haan 2009 Spring advertising campaign.
She was photographed by Martyn Thompson for the ad– the first ever featuring a Nike athlete representing Cole Haan.
Allow me to comment on how remarkably simple and pure (bland?) this image is.
When I think of it, it probably will appeal to Cole Haan fans.
You’ll be seeing Maria’s ad debut in the March issue of Vanity Fair as well as on billboards and bus shelters in the Meatpacking District.
Here’s an interesting one.
Wyclef Jean has recorded a new song he says was inspired by fashion designer-athlete, Venus Williams.
The Haitian-born Grammy Award-winning musician/producer/social activist also wrote the song, “Venus (I’m Ready).”
He says he’s inspired by the spirit, character and prowess of the American tennis champion, who recently took home her third Olympic gold medal (with her sister Serena) in the women’s doubles match at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
“Venus (I’m Ready)” is slated to premiere as Venus Williams’ theme music during the 2008 US Open tennis tournament in Flushing, Queens, New York, running from August 25 through September 7.

Steve & Barry’s is being sold!
The line of retail stores will be officially bought on Monday by BHY S&B Holdings LLC.
Turns out it means nothing to the customer (yet).
Under the terms of the $163 million purchase agreement, the majority of Steve & Barry’s 276 stores will continue to serve customers nationwide, according to a statement issue by the stores.
All of the collections they carry by Sarah Jessica Parker, Venus Williams, Amanda Bynes, Laird Hamilton, Ben Wallace and Bubba Watson, will remain in stores.
However, company reps did say that BHY S&B Holdings has made no decisions concerning which Steve & Barry’s stores will close or when, although an announcement is anticipated in the next week.
