Unexpected Lessons from American Airlines and One of the Worst Winter Storms Ever

Every now and then, I make trips between Washington, D.C. and my favorite place on earth, Barbados.

In two weeks, I’ve been booked on that journey four times, amid Winter conditions that have turned America’s travel plans upside down.

These quick trips have been a whirlwind: sleeping overnight in a departure lounge, uber-expensive airport-to-hotel transfers (pun intended), unplanned spending on accommodation, and insanely long rebooking queues.
